Youth Programs
The JONAH (Join Our Neighborhood And Help) Community Center has been identified in the community of Oakland
Beach in Warwick since 1972. The first senior program of Warwick moved to the JONAH building in 1981. Serving the
community physically and with spirit is JONAH. JONAH also provides GED, Community Service opportunities, after
school programs in music dance and theatre.
"Journeys to School" the tutoring program from JONAH Community Center meets Monday's 2:30- 6:30. This multi
dimensional approach includes tutoring, goal setting and community service opportunities, if needed. This program
is designed to foster positive feelings while completing the educational requirements needed to be successful.
Students gain self esteem and learn from others in a flexible and structured approach. To assist the student in
meeting the requirements of the court, the JONAH Community Center in collaboration with the State of RI Truancy
Court has tutoring available to those in Warwick with need. Certified teachers will assist youth in preparation of class
work in areas required by the court and schools. In a one on one setting, the student will get the attention needed to
be prepared and succeed in the class room.
Dance "Aspiring Dreamz" Program meets on Mondays 3:00-4:30.
JONAH Theater directed by Tray Gearing and Bill Oakes meets Tuesdays 3:00 to 5:00.
Warwick Community Children's Chorus is under the direction of Kristin Britto meets Wednesdays 3:00 to 4:30.
